About Us

We are a federally funded, subsidized housing commission comprised of single, family, and senior/disabled housing. We offer affordable, safe, well-maintained homes and apartments for those that qualify.

From the beginning, our mission has been to provide quality housing opportunities that are clean, safe and affordable.

The Housing Commission manages the day-to-day operations of Heritage Manor and 30 family homes in the City of Houghton. We also manage Laurium Senior Housing in Laurium, Lakeview Manor and Quincy Haven Apartments in Hancock, as well as the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8). Our apartments and single-family homes are safe, clean and the rent is affordable.

We are committed to operating in an efficient, ethical and professional manner. We partner with our residents and other agencies to enhance the quality of life in all our communities.

How Our Communities Work

Our housing staff consists of an Executive Director, Property Managers, a Resident Service Coordinator and our Maintenance team. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Commissioners and the staff reports to the Executive Director.

Each Housing Commission has its own Board of Commissioners made up of five individuals from their community and are appointed by the City or Village Council. The Board of Commissioner's make the policies and the Executive Director enforces the policies. There is a Resident Commissioner on each Board to help make suggestions that would make the residents life more enjoyable.

The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the properties and enforcing the Policies, Procedures and Lease agreements that are set forth by the Board of Commissioners.
