The Houghton Housing Commission owns and manages thirty single family homes. Conveniently located throughout the City of Houghton and near schools, shopping, dining, and entertainment. There are 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom homes that are perfect for families. The Houghton Housing Commission maintains a waiting list of applicants that are contacted as soon as openings occur. In order to be eligible for low-income housing, one must be at least 18 years of age, qualify as a family, and meet the established income limits. All applicants are screened through criminal background and credit checks.

Rent Calculations

The rent is different for every resident. Each resident can choose either to pay a flat rental amount established for the individual bedroom size of the apartment, or 30% of their "Adjusted" income.

"Adjusted" income is the amount of annual income an individual has after deducting $400 for each individual over the age of 62, and medical/disabled expenses for qualified individuals.
